శరీరంపై అతి తక్కువ కోతతో కిడ్నీలో రాళ్లను తొలగించే పెర్కటేనియస్ నెఫ్రోలిథోటమీ (పీసీఎన్ఎల్) అనే ఆధునిక వైద్య విధానం ద్వారా 60 ఏళ్ల వృద్ధుడి కిడ్నీ నుంచి 418 రాళ్లను తొలగించారు.ఈ విధానంలో లేజర్ ఆధారిత ప్రత్యేకమైన పరికరాలను కిడ్నీలోకి చొప్పిస్తారు. వీటిలో ఓ సూక్ష్మ కెమెరా కూడా ఉంటుంది. ఇది విప్లవాత్మక విధానం అని, ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఉన్న కిడ్నీ రాళ్ల బాధితులకు ఇది ఆశాదీపం వంటిదని ఏఐఎన్ యూ డాక్టర్లు అభివర్ణించారు. ఈ విధానంలో శరీరంపై ఎక్కువ కోత పెట్టాల్సిన అవసరం ఉండదని వారు తెలిపారు.
