పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్ రాష్ట్రంలో రేషన్ కార్డులకు ఆధార్ కార్డులను లింక్ చేసే డ్రైవ్ ప్రారంభించినప్పటి నుండి దాదాపు రెండు కోట్ల నకిలీ రేషన్ కార్డులను రద్దు చేసినట్లు పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్ ఫుడ్ అండ్ సప్లైస్ డిపార్ట్మెంట్ పేర్కొంది. డిజిటల్ రేషన్ కార్డులు ప్రవేశపెట్టినప్పుడు మొత్తం కార్డుదారుల సంఖ్య దాదాపు 10.5 కోట్లుగా ఉందని శాఖ వర్గాలు తెలిపాయి.
అయితే, రేషన్ కార్డులతో ఆధార్ కార్డులను లింక్ చేసే సూచనలను అనుసరించి, మరణించిన వ్యక్తుల పేరిట ఒకటి కంటే ఎక్కువ కార్డులను కలిగి ఉన్న వ్యక్తి వంటి అనేక నకిలీ రేషన్ కార్డులు కనుగొనబడ్డాయి. తరువాత రద్దు చేయబడ్డాయి. ప్రస్తుతం రాష్ట్రంలో మొత్తం కార్డుల సంఖ్య 8.5 కోట్లకు చేరిందని ఆ శాఖ అధికారి ఒకరు తెలిపారు. ప్రారంభంలో, రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం, అధికార తృణమూల్ కాంగ్రెస్ కార్డుల అనుసంధానాన్ని వ్యతిరేకించాయి.
