విశాఖపట్నంలోని గంగవరం పోర్టు వద్ద కార్మికులు చేపట్టిన ‘పోర్టు బంద్’ ఉద్రిక్తతకు దారి తీసింది. కార్మికులు, పోలీసులకు మధ్య జరిగిన తోపులాటలో పలువురికి గాయాలయ్యాయి.తొలగించిన పోర్టు కార్మికులను విధుల్లోకి తీసుకోవడంతో పాటు కనీస వేతనం రూ.36వేలు చెల్లించాలనే డిమాండ్లతో కార్మిక సంఘాలు బంద్కు పిలుపునిచ్చాయి.

దీంతో గురువారం ఉదయం పెద్ద ఎత్తున కార్మికులు, నిర్వాసితులు, కాలుష్య ప్రభావిత ప్రాంతాల ప్రజలు, అఖిలపక్ష నేతలు గంగవరం పోర్టు వద్దకు చేరుకున్నారు. బంద్ పిలుపు నేపథ్యంలో పోలీసులు భారీగా మోహరించారు. గేటుకు ఇరువైపులా భారీ ఇనుప కంచె ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. పోర్టు కార్మికులు కంచెను దాటుకుని తమ కుటుంబాలతో కలిసి ముట్టడికి యత్నించారు. దీంతో ఆందోళనకారులు, పోలీసులకు మధ్య తోపులాట జరిగింది. ఈ ఘటనలో పలువురు కార్మికులు, పోలీసులకు గాయాలయ్యాయి. 10 మంది పోలీసులు గాయపడగా.. వారిలో ఇద్దరికి తీవ్ర గాయాలయ్యాయి. తోపులాటలో గాజువాక సీఐ కాలిలో ముళ్ల కంచె దిగింది.
