తూర్పు ఆఫ్రికా (East Africa) దేశాలను భారీ వర్షాలు అతలాకుతలం చేస్తున్నాయి. టాంజానియాలో భారీ వర్షాల కారణంగా వరదలు, కొండచరియలు విరిగిపడటంతో కనీసం 155 మంది ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోయారని అల్ జజీరా తెలిపింది.గురువారం పార్లమెంటులో ప్రధాన మంత్రి కాసిమ్ మజలివా మాట్లాడుతూ, ప్రస్తుత వర్షాకాలం ఎల్నినో వాతావరణ నమూనా కారణంగా అధ్వాన్నంగా మారిందని, దీని ఫలితంగా వరదలు మరియు రోడ్లు, వంతెనలు మరియు రైలు మార్గాలు ధ్వంసమయ్యాయని అన్నారు.
వర్షాల వల్ల 51,000 ఇళ్లు, 200,000 మందికి పైగా ప్రజలు ప్రభావితమయ్యారని ప్రధాని పేర్కొన్నారు. ముంపునకు గురైన పాఠశాలలు మూసివేయబడినందున, వరదల్లో చిక్కుకుపోయిన వారిని అత్యవసర సేవలు రక్షించబడుతున్నాయని అల్ జజీరా నివేదించింది.ఈ వర్షాల కారణంగా సుమారు 236 మంది గాయాలపాలైనట్లు తెలిపారు.మే నెలలో కూడా వర్షాలు కొనసాగుతాయని కాసిమ్ హెచ్చరించారు. ప్రజలు అప్రమత్తంగా ఉండాలని ప్రభావిత ప్రాంతాలను వదిలి సురక్షిత ప్రాంతాలకు వెళ్లాలని సూచించారు.
